I thoroughly enjoyed all of the books by Miss Read, and ordered this one as I didn't have the title on my bookshelves. I still enjoyed a reread, but I would have liked to know it was a combination of books I already had. This was The Market Square, and The Howards of Caxley in one volume. Although a really nice volume, since I already have everything else I could find by this author, including these two books, I would have not purchased it. But anyone who doesn't have her books, or not these two anyway, I highly recommend getting it. She writes about village life in a small English village, with people you will enjoy and want to hear more about.

This is a great book following several generations of people in Caxley - those of you familiar with Miss Read know where this is! But, even if you've never read Miss Read before, this book is nice. It's a great mellow read full of gritty events just as in real life.
One of Miss Read's best...covers several generations, rich details of each era, great characters. Loved it!
Another winsome walk through the ups and downs of the fascinating lives of two families in a charming English village... Thoroughly enjoyable!
Love these books by Miss Read. Even though they harken back to simpler times, these books make me feel comforted in this crazy world.
