This is one of a few of Mr. Dahl's books in this line I purchased after how well "Little Monkey Calms Down" went over with our son. I previewed it on Kindle Unlimited first, and then made the decision after doing so to buy it. I also went on to buy a few more of these books for kindle, because I discovered something very interesting in the process of previewing this book: Our son actually seems to find new books more motivating in kindle format. I'm guessing because he likes the finger swiping thing better then the page turning thing because it's easier for him.Anyways, he occasionally tries to lightly push someone or their hand away when he doesn't want to do something. It's not an aggression thing for him, I think he just finds it easier then using his speech device. Obviously, this isn't something we want, so we've been encouraging communication and behavioral strategies that have been reducing this behavior, but I thought it might be nice to have a story to emphasize the point. I like that the sentence structures are so simple, because it makes it easier to acclimate him to a new book and have him focus on the main message. Since the message is super important for what we are trying to do with him, I like it. But if you have a normal functioning older kiddo, I'd say this would fall into the range of being best for a typically developing 18 month to 3 year old. But, for a kiddo with developmental delays or cognitive impairment, I think that age range of usefulness could go up higher. Our son is 5.I like that it starts out mentioning that little dino is big and tough, because my kiddo is big and very strong for his age, and I think it's important to have the talking point of "be careful what you push." I think it's good that this book includes both a brother and a sister in the list of people not to push, because even though a family may not have one or the other, many families do have a sibling of some gender. For our son, he has a sister. If your kiddo is an only child, this may present a problem for you because it's two thirds of the subjects little dino is told not to push. The remaining one is friends. For us, this still works, because whenever we're about to go out to do therapy onsite somewhere, I always refer to his therapist as "our friend..." and add the name. So for us, even though our son doesn't have friends his own age and isn't even remotely interested in that at this time (that can be Autism for you), we still use that term for people he interacts with and I find that section useful.Where I marked this down comes in two parts. One, there isn't really a strong why provided. In the end it mentions that not pushing allows everyone to have fun together, but my son doesn't care about that. But he's basically very gentle in his heart, and doesn't like to see people or animals hurt. So if he knows the main reason for not doing something is that it could or will hurt someone, you're much more likely to get cooperation from him. Also, the kindle version gets glitchy sometimes and cuts off part of the page and the words, and you have to mess with it some to get the full image up. Which can be challenging when you already are dealing with a child who has limited amounts of patience for books.Otherwise, I think this is a good, solid, simple teaching book about not pushing. I also like that there are positive things given a person could push, I think that's helpful because it's an important behavioral management strategy to be able to have appropriate replacers.

This book has very cute, colorful illustrations, and has very easy to understand wording. I purchased this for my toddler who is still learning to interact appropriately with his peers (aka, not push them or pull them, etc). He absolutely loves this book, and it became a favorite as soon as I gave it to him. He immediately understood the message, especially since he's obsessed with cars - he really connected to that comparison. So now I can say "remember, we don't push our friends, we push the cars" and he just grins at me, and actually has stopped pushing as much as he was! It didn't completely solve our problem, but he went from being so bad about pushing that he was in constantly at school, daycare, church nursery, etc to only getting in trouble every once in awhile, not even every day! For age comparison, he's 3 1/2 years old but is delayed, so he understands at about a 1 1/2 to 2 year old level.

I love these series also the autors other bookes little lion, monkey and elephant series. These are perfect for children as young as infants to preschool age when these behaviors become an issue. We also read but did not buy hands are not for hitting which is ok for older kids.My son loved he lil dino series right off the bat, the pictures are eye catching, simple sentences beginner readers can read and it explalins the behavior in a very simple way. Like most books for toddlers it is open for parents to explain how each dino feels (explain facial features of the dinos being pushed) so it's a great tool for social emotional development! I recommened these with my sons speech therapist and she loved them as well!

This book has been helpful with explaining to my toddler what they can/should push vs pushing friends. I was v concerned when I got reports back from daycare that my kid was pushing others when they tried to take things from them. As a response we started to talk about their day in class and about pushing and using words as well as what is appropriate to push. This book put into illustration the after effects of pushing. We now talk about pushing doors, chairs, button and not friends.Dinosaurs are always a good way to introduce kids to concepts as well. Win win!

I absolutely love the entire series of Dino’s don’t. As my toddler experienced different stages of behavior that was unfavorable like hitting/biting, we’d read these books at bedtime and when she exhibited the behavior again I’d say “Dino’s don’t bite friends” and she’d repeat it back. It really helped address those behaviors and ultimately put an end to them without punishing her for “bad” behavior. Highly recommend these books as a tool to teach your child.

I got this for my 4 year old who is having trouble behaving at preschool. I should have read the details more closely, I missed the age range was 2-4 which made this book too simple for my son. Each 2 page spread had simple statements such as "Don't push your sister" "Push the swing". Both this book and the Dinos don't Hit book have references to a brother and sister which doesn't apply to us and were confusing. My son did like them because of the dinos and was upset when I told him I returned them. Might work for the younger crowd but needed something with more substance.

Wonderful for toddlers.you think they don't know what's going on? One quick of this little. BOok and you soon realize toddlers know exactly what's going on our twins seemed actually relieved that someone or something actually related to their plight. The pushing has stopped!

I have been buying cookbooks, not for the recipes but for ideas and new ways of cooking. I for a long time basically lived on pasta and hamburger meat while I was trying to get over cigarettes. I gained a 100 pounds and developed type2 diabetics. I now plan each meal around a vegetable or two. Boiling, roasting or any manner that will allow me to use minimum amounts of fats and starches. Still haven't found a low carb desert worth the trouble of making or eating.Got a lot of good ideas from this book and have enjoyed the results - every bite.

Not very detailed or explanatory which surprised me considering CIA books. The information could be found on any generic website. Recipes were redo's of other CIA books except with substituted healthy replacements. good book if you need a lot of tofu recipes.

The Culinary Institute should know better. This book lacks proper proof reading and the recipes leave much to be desired. For example, Rosemary Chicken with no rosemary? Really? This is one of several examples throughout the book that leave one laughing. There are also flagrant punctuation errors which I find amusing. I am no English major but I do expect quality work. If you must get this book for your higher education via the culinary institute you are attending, then so be it. If not, I would consider other alternatives.

Would highly recommend any book from the CIA, especially the newer versions, the book includes hundreds of helpful and very descriptive recipes with nutritional information. Also there's a lot of helpful literature in the book about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle, the book includes cooking techniques and several pictures of tools needed for each dish.

Daughter loves the book. Very informative

It has tones of info that you can use both in school and at work

Estupendo libro. Todo explicado y muchas recetas

#39,611 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I don't understand how anyone can get anything out of this book. It feels like the author has no understanding of the English language at all. How this book got published is beyond me.Here's an example. The very first exercise is to "make an idiom" for your character, and from the tables presented, the author clearly has no understanding of what an idiom actually is. The statements generated from these "idiom" tables make absolutely no sense. Here are some examples: "A raging jester might lose over a barrel." You spent suffering a god." "Blood might lose without the darkest dungeon."It feels like the author just smashed random words together and published them in a fancy cover. It's an astonishing waste of paper and ink.

This book was designed for character creation for role playing games, but it's a super valuable resource for character development for writing and storytelling in general. What makes a character interesting? What makes us fall in love with them? If a character has something that makes them powerful, what happens when it's taken away? Coupled with really great commentary on storytelling is a fresh and humorous approach to the subject matter. Add in some randomizing tables to keep your creative ideas from sprawling.Cannot recommend highly enough. If you're stuck in a creative process with a character, you could flip to almost any page in this book at random to get you going again.

True to its word, The Ultimate RCBG guides players through the process of creating a detailed backstory for their role-playing game characters with the lightheartedness and whimsy of most Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. Readers will enjoy the comedic tone of many of the exercises, from the adventuring party formation app called “Ventur” (“Whom does your character swipe right?”) to the “Damn Merlinials” prompt that explores how older generations of adventurers might look down on those newer to the lifestyle. The book leaps from topic to topic—“What is your character’s catchphrase?” segues into “What would you do to save a cat?” before proceeding to “What unique holiday do you celebrate?”, for example—which means readers don’t have to worry about getting “stuck” on one portion of their character’s life. You can easily skip ahead to a prompt that interests you, or open up the book to a random page for an unexpected adventure. If you want to work through the book in order, the activities are organized based on character level, which makes sense when you consider that the experiences of a fifteenth-level hero will differ compared to a first-level novice fresh from the farm. There’s also some great guidance in the introduction for the types of feats your character will be capable of accomplishing by level.A reader needs only the loosest of character concepts in mind to complete the activities—and honestly, you could go in with a blank slate and have fun seeing what sort of character you generate through the prompts alone. I think this is especially helpful for readers who may be intimidated at the prospect of crafting an epic backstory worthy of a George R. R. Martin novel (and having to generate a treatise numbering in the dozens of pages, like that one player always does). Even after completing only a handful of activities, you’ll produce an emergent narrative for your character’s past in much the same way that a series of rolls and card draws creates a story over the course of a board game. Contemplating how the different episodes in a character’s life might be linked makes for an organic and unique backstory, although it might not have quite the elegance and resonance of a character whose histories have been tightly plotted.Where many character backstory generators focus on the who, what, where, and when, the activities are structured to let readers focus on the how and why, which is much more useful when figuring out how to actually role play as your character. (Consider how two characters with a similarly tragic childhood might respond to those formative events very differently.) I was pleasantly surprised by how the activities also engage the rest of the adventuring party, inviting the reader to think about how their character relates to or potentially clashes with their fellow travelers. This is an aspect absent in similar types of character-writing advice books for novelists, and it’s something Amato’s book does especially well.Who Should Get This Book? This book is especially geared toward players who want to continue enjoying the tabletop gaming hobby on their own time, players who are new to role-playing and Dungeons & Dragons specifically, and players who don’t normally consider themselves creative. The latter type of reader will appreciate jumpstarting their inspiration with fill-in-the-blank prompts, short-answer questions, multiple-choice options, and tables to roll on to generate random results. If you do consider yourself especially creative and enjoy writing, your answers to the activities can serve as the foundation for a slew of short stories or scenes. The sheer variety of activities, as well as the range of prompts, makes the workbook fun and exciting to work through, since you’re genuinely curious to know what the next questions will be.Who May Want to Pass? This book won’t appeal as strongly to gamers who are turned off by fantasy tropes or settings, role-players who want a very serious or dark tone for their characters, and people who want to create novel-worthy characters efficiently (you can totally use these prompts to create a protagonist for your next writing project, but you won’t get there as efficiently or cover all the bases needed by a novel). That said, there’s still plenty of gaming goodness here for players of games other than D&D.Between the PagesThe very first thing I noticed upon opening the book was the interior design, which is elegant and well-balanced on the page. The sans-serif font is easy to read and not too small. The dual ink tones (black and orange) makes the product look good without the cost of a full-color production. The spot gloss on the cover and spine also provides a touch of class.Unfortunately, a lot of the beauty and visual interest is lost in the Kindle version, and I was disappointed by the low resolution of the bullet icons (likely done to keep the file size low, but storage space usually isn’t a concern for me on my Kindle or tablet). On the plus side, the tables are sized properly and don’t break awkwardly in the Kindle reader like I’ve seen in many other professionally produced e-books. Nevertheless, this book is definitely worth getting in print, or in a PDF option if one becomes available. Finally, I think any true workbook would benefit from a lay-flat binding, and some readers may find it awkward or impossible to write in their copies without breaking the spine. However, coil binding would have greatly increased the cost, and customers who really want this experience can take their books to their local office supply store or print shop to rebind it for ten dollars or so.Final ThoughtsAll in all, this book helps fill a gap in a burgeoning hobby where most of the how-to books are directed at game masters. Most importantly, this book provides a vehicle for many more hours of fun when you don’t feel like you have enough role-playing in your life.A complimentary copy of the softcover was provided to the author for review purposes.

This book is a really useful tool for helping generate backstory ideas during character creation. Either for a Player Character or a Non Player Character this book provides a good stepping stone in the process. It’s simple and open format is not intended as a specific regimen to be followed for Character Generation nor is it just an endless list of random tables. Instead it is a system neutral collection of brief themed exercises with questions and some random tables. These exercises are written in a way as if a GM were providing a scenario for you or asking you the questions and even have some die rolls for certain resolutions and possibilities. It is meant to inspire you to flesh out what this Character has been through and what may have helped shape their personality and their motivations. The books exercises are also broken up into tiers to have a general gauge over potential starting points in a Characters career. I really enjoy what this book has to offer and I find it very useful to get my own thoughts kickstarted. I would highly recommend this book to any player of any tabletop game or any GM to have at the table for their players to thumb through. A GM might even want to select certain exercises that might fit the theme of the campaigns starting point and use them as handouts at session zero. This book is jam packed with a variety of material to inspire you, a worthy purchase indeed. Thank you James D’ Amato.

James has put so much thought and care into this book. Even from a quick flip through you can tell that applying these exercises to your characters are going to give them so much added depth that they will come to life at the table. It also has his unique humor to get you smiling and giggling while you're enhancing your character. I used these exercises for a character I'm developing now and she is becoming more clear in my mind. This will stay at our game table for a long time.
