I finished it with warm happy feels, loving the story (and the fire sex, lets be honest). But the real surprise for me came as I lay in bed mulling over it. I honestly loved this story.The heroine, Alexa, is wealthy. She’s from an affluent background and she’s worked her way up her father’s company and is expecting to be CEO in a few years. She was planning to leave all that behind to get away from her ex. The hero, Rafe, constantly builds her up. He’s rooting for her success. He helps her see that she can make a place for herself at home instead of running away. The hero is a former stripper turned club owner. But he’s not rolling in money: he’s working his ass off to stay in the black. He listens to the Alexa’s ideas and truly appreciates her feedback.It’s such a beautiful picture of two people working together and functioning in a healthy relationship. Rafe doesn’t give a damn she makes more money than he does in the end. And she never considers his past as a stripper as a roadblock, despite what people tell her.TLDR: a beautiful and sexy portrayal of a relationship between a strong man and a strong woman where neither has to give up anything for the other. They make each other better instead. Bonus points: he’s a former stripper and he performs in the first chapter with the heroine!

Why was she at something called The Break Up Bash?Alexa had thought about the hot dancer from her bachelorette party more than once. And now, here she was, back at the same club, and he was here again. And Alexa was NOT married. She was determined to have a little encounter with him. Well, that little encounter turns into much more.Rafe isn't just what you see, he is a jack of all trades as well as a business owner. Alexa will be leaving town very soon, and together they decide that a no strings attached fling will fit perfectly into their lives right now.This is my first read by Nina Crespo. I really enjoyed how the story came together. Alexa, more than just a powerful princess and Rafe, more than just a one night stand. The characters have depth. I look forward to more from this series.
I thought this would be a "wham bam,thank you mame" kind of book but boy was I wrong. The growing relationship between a privileged woman and a stripper turned businessman was a wonderful study in how love transcends the stereotype of Alex and Rafe and their happy ever after ending. A wonderful story.
Anyone who says a ex hot make stripper. Can't have it all. Sure hadn't met Rafe. This was a fun, hot and amazing story.
The author has written a classy, sassy, and heart pounding story. Now, I hope you go and enjoy your very own "Dream Maker"!
The First Rule of Hook-Ups was my first read by Nina Crespo and I honestly enjoyed it. I mean, it's got a Magic Mike feel to it with a smart stripper who is successful and knows how to care for a woman. So yeah, I'm going to gobble that up. Here's what I'm going to start off with. This story is told in 3rd person and I have to be honest, the story has to really blow me away in order for me to get past that. I think there are only a handful of authors that I will continue to read their stories written in that POV style. It's a personal preference and something in the story has to stand out or connect to me in order for me to really get past it. Fair or not fair, it's the truth. So with that all being said, I found myself wanting to get back to The First Rule of Hook-Ups as soon as possible after anytime I had to put it down to do something else. Alexa just went through being left at the alter and let's just say that it's left her a bit jaded. When her friends convince her to enjoy herself and just hookup, she's not really feeling it. Until she seems him again. Rafe. The man at her bachelorette party that had her thinking about him way more than she should be. The man she still thought about when it came to that night. Now that she's single, who's to say they can't have a little bit of fun. Rafe can't believe he's seeing Alexa again. He's never forgotten about her but she's off limits. She's married, right? So imagine his surprise when he finds out she isn't. He tried to push her away but it didn't work. He's drawn to her. He has also been hurt in the past so they make a deal. Strictly a hook up. No feelings involved. Yeah, right. That never works out. The closer Rafe and Alexa get, the more they realize that they can't live without each other. Things seems to be moving quickly and they didn't even realize it. People keep trying to get in their way so when they finally discover how much they mean to each other, they have to fight for it. Overall, I had a good time with this book. I'm glad that I kept going and didn't let the 3rd person POV distract me because I did become invested and I wanted to know if they get their HEA. I look forward to reading more books from Crespo in the future.Â
