I watched this episode unfold over the years and was of the opinion that the accused was framed and simply tried until the desired outcome is achieved.Im a little more persuaded of his guilt after reading this,but the whole incident is a stain on the presumption of innocence.

Douglas has done an incredible job of charting this bizarre but important case. This well written explains in detail the difficulty of prosecuting war criminals and, I would think, would be of assistance how to handle future prosecutions. Why do I give the book 4 stars? No fault of the author’s, the book can be too detailed for some readers, especially those who have never studied law and the conflict of laws. I found myself skipping sections here and there. Nevertheless, any semi-intelligent reader can get a lot from this riveting, objectively told tale.

An absolutely fascinating book that follows the twists and turns of the legal system trying to deal with the crimes against humanity. A fascinating almost throwing legal tour de force for the prosecutions to try and to shine the lights on to what happened in the death camps through the prosecution of one guard.

This book is at once a history of the Demjanjuk court proceedings, a concise overview of international criminal justice, and a compelling meditation on the novel legal theories brought to bear on 'the right wrong man.' It is also superbly written, and should sustain the interest of a reader with appetite for any of the three.

Terrific treatment of a complicated but important story.

You may find this an interesting read if you are deep into international homicide litigation. Not being so, I found the lengthy narrations of the differences between the US, Israeli and Germany legal systems quite boring. I was disappointed that the life of the subject, John Demjanjuk, was virtually ignored. Nothing about his years as a machinist at Ford and precious little about his American family. Lawrence Douglas may be an excellent court reporter, but this book left me wishing I had saved my money.

This book contains both a fascinating, multi-dimensional story and a nuanced and powerfully argued thesis about Demjanuk. A difficult task masterfully executed.

PATHWAYS IN JUGGLING will keep you occupied from first, tentative steps in three-ball juggling through more complicated work with diablos and devil sticks. It's appropriate for many different skill levels, from novice to advanced intermediate. After you've mastered all the book's knowledge, you'll be ready to perform impressively before public audiences.This learning process is made easier by the book's style. It's a very handsome, well-designed volume, whose instructive abilities are greatly enhanced by the use of full-color photographs. In many cases, the imagery is so clear, you don't absolutely need to read the accompanying text to understand how to perform the trick. Even so, each trick is carefully explained, and tips are liberally mixed in to help students overcome common problems.But for me, one of the best features is simply the book's size. PATHWAYS is a large enough volume to stay flat on a table, so you see the can glance at the photographs while holding your juggling objects. The large format also means the photographs are themselves large and easy to see from a distance. This saves tremendous time, and is certainly one of the strongest reasons I pull this volume before others when I want to practice.What's in this volume? You get six major sections, covering something on the order of 50 distinct tricks. First is an introduction to juggling three balls, followed by variations on three-ball juggling, club juggling, juggling more than three items, stealing and passing, and, finally, using devil sticks and diablos. The how-to sections are followed by the weakest part of the book: an all-too-brief discussion of equipment and a two-page section on performing in public. These last sections are almost wholly inadequate, in my view. Though the equipment section does introduce you to the basic tools of the trade, it does nothing to tell you how to get that equipment. While it may have been that the authors were trying to avoid appearing to endorse particular sales outlets, or maybe that they thought that listing specific addresses might have "dated" the book, their lack of specificity is truly woeful. Juggling outlets are not uniformly placed throughout the world, and some ideas of where to go for supplies would've been extremely helpful. Likewise, the equally scant section on performing doesn't go a long way to explaining how to put together an act. As far as it goes, it's a good enough essay, but it, too, is hardly explicit. In future editions, the authors would be well-served by including at least a "further reading/viewing" section to direct their students to examples of fine performance, so as to show ways that individual skills might be put together into a coherent whole.These two flaws aside, however, PATHWAYS IN JUGGLING is a highly recommendable work. If you have any aspiration of becoming a competent juggler with a deep repertoire, this is the book you want.

Can’t use a book to learn how to juggle

Granddaughter wanted to juggle. This was the answer for her.

I rarely see this book reviewed on juggling sites, where everyone extoles the virtues of books no longer in print. I bought this one on a whim. Turns out it is one of the best juggling books I own. I am a pretty adept, casual 3 ball juggler. So I didn't get too much from the chapters on learnign the 3 ball cascade. However, those same chapters turned my friend an avid anti-juggling maniac into a juggling fiend. The author got past the blocks I never could in teaching her to juggle. (And I have taught more than a two dozen people the 3 ball cascasde.) What intersted me was the chapter on 5 balls (still working on it) and detailed instrucitons on juggling with clubs. I am also working on a 3 ball Mill's Mess.Definately worth a look see. The pictures are big and bright, the instructions are clear. I liked it.. it never makes it back to the bookshelf in my house... it is always on the coffee table because we are always looking at it for something or another.

Contained the best explanation of Mill's Mess I've found. Easy to read with lots of color, I liked the pictures. Entertaining and useful.

Ok that was a corny title. We enjoy this book and its colorful illustrations. Both my three and –almost five- year olds really like it. It can be a good start to a conversation about space and planets. It is fun to read out loud and then go get other library books on the topic. In the tradition of other Dr. Seuss books it rhymes.The book is updated to have a sad reminder that Pluto is no longer in the line up and we end our naming game with Neptune. And to make it even better it is a level 2 reader and slowly but surely after several readings my son is starting to feel comfortable reading a few pages when he is in the mood. I expect that after many readings the kids will learn to name the planets without noticing. What a great addition to our kid library!

I like the book in the print version, but I was trying to encourage first graders to read Early Readers. The screens (see my pictures) were not visually engaging. They could read the words, but I know I didn't really tempt them to race to the Early Reader shelf with what they saw here!

6 yr old daughter says, "A little dull." She thinks it is better for kindergarten. She liked the topic (planets) but disliked the rhymes because they used the same words too often.

Bought for my 6 year old who was having a hard time reading. I have found these particular level 2 reader books (Step Into Reading) much easier for him to read (and sound out the words). Added bonus was that we learned a few things about each of the planets. Beautiful pictures. Fun read! How can you go wrong with a Cat in The Hat Knows A Lot About That book?!

This is an awesome book. Our toddler know all the planets now!

My daughter loves this book but as a child of the 90's I struggled not having Pluto listed! Even without the dwarf planet listed this is a fantastic and entertaining read.

I bought this book for my cousin's daughter (who is half Filipino). The main reason I bought this gift was 1) I wanted to buy her a book and 2) I couldn't be sure if she already owned or would receive the same Dr. Seuss and Little Golden books everyone else tends to buy. This was a great choice, I didn't read through the book but I saw some stories I had heard before. Since she is sure to grow up hearing stories about Cinderella, etc. I hope she will also treasure these as part of her heritage as she grows up and when she is older.

I read one story to my son and was done. It was about an ugly giant that the characters ambushed and killed. What kind of children's book is this?

One of the most favored bedtime stories in our household. Good illustration that corresponds to the story. Eve catching colors and over all fun stories to read.

Great multicultural stories to share in my 4th grade classroom! Illustrations were nice too! We were able to compare these to stories from other cultures.

My two little girls love the book especially reading it to them and gives them something to connect with part of their heritage.

I even learned a few tips of the trade, and got a big dose of wisdom from his and Carolyn's attitudes towards love, people and freedom.I highly recommend this book to anyone - sailors and landlubbers alike. You won't regret reading it. I can't wait to start reading some of Fatty's other books...

I’ve read all of Capn Fatty’s books and found this one special, from his fathers lessons, family adventures and the backdrop of times and characters across the decades - its so much more than sailing, it’s a lesson in independence, conservation, following your dreams and how we connect with it all in life.

While I will admit that as you read his various books, some stories, anecdotes and other small details are repeated. Still, I have very much enjoyed reading each in its own way. I chose this one to specifically review since it is one of the better tales of circumnavigation, told through a series of essays. Among his other books, Red Sea Run is excellent, Chasing the Horizon is a must.

If you like boats and crazies then you'll love Fatty and his tales! I've known him since the 70's when we were in the V.I. and he is one amazing dude (and has a fabulous wife and daughter too, lucky fellow). He is the most unique guy I have ever met afloat and a self-taught writer who knows his stuff. He makes you laugh and enjoy being alive. If you like the sea, you'll love FATTY! This is a good read for anyone who loves good yachting yarns and the adventures of the South Pacific and beyond. Makes you realise how simple life can be if we are prepared to ditch our baggage.

Great yarn spinner his tales are interesting and very funny and speak to the gypsy and wanderer in all of us.
